Eight Mustangs named to FACA All-Academic Team

Florida Athletic Coaches Association recognizes top Florida 4A student-athletes

MERRITT ISLAND, Florida – After a strong 14-3-3 season resulting in the program’s 16th Regional Championship and a visit to FHSAA’s State Quarterfinals, eight athletes from the Merritt Island High School Girls Varsity soccer team were named to the Florida Athletic Coaches Association’s annual All-Academic Team.

Seniors Jessica Martin (C), Maddy Morse, Amaya Quintal (C), and Karys Verpaele (C) were named to the list along with a pair of Juniors, Dani Grenon and Kyleigh Trout.  The sophomore duo of Payton Gibney & Katie Glass rounded out a strong representation from the Mustangs soccer program making the list.

Girls Varsity Soccer Head Coach Nathan Trout said, “Our coaching staff couldn’t be prouder of these achievements. The high school season is rigorous, and it takes a lot of hard work for our student-athletes to balance their schedules and maintain excellence in the classroom.  Thank you to the FACA team for recognizing their accomplishments.”

The Mustangs girls soccer team also had three named to the annual All-Star team and five named to FACA’s 2020-2021 All-State team.

Merritt Island High School is an accredited public high school in Brevard County, Florida.  The school offers classes for grades 9-12, including Honors courses, Advanced Placement courses, and courses with the Dual Enrollment program at Eastern Florida State College.  There is also a variety of academies available for students to enroll in. Including the Advance Placement academy, Fame academy for the performing arts, and Davinci.
