Very tough game, they are a quality program and we are not accustomed to seeing that quality of play. We had trouble with their wing play, they are so talented. Our outside backs had their hands full the whole time.

They were on attack the whole game. Their fitness is better, their athleticism is better. They were just a better team than us.

Merritt Island ends Eastside girls’ season [February 2020]

We knew this Merritt Island boys team was going to come out hard, and we knew we had to match that same intensity. We didn’t come with it in the first half, and their height really gave us some trouble. We didn’t match their intensity for the whole game, and that was the difference-maker. They just wanted it a little more.

I’m extremely proud of our teams for this accomplishment. For Merritt Island to receive that many players named All Cape Coast Conference speaks volumes to the way our boys and girls programs came together for each other this year. It’s one of the biggest compliments a player can receive for an opposing coach to select them to this esteemed all-county group.

Merritt Island Now – MIHS Soccer Program has Winning Formula [2021]

In what was a loaded decade of individual and team success for the county, Michael Seng of Merritt Island was chosen as the top boys player by a vote of fans at 321preps.com. He was a key member of one of the most successful Mustangs teams ever. Seng led the 22-1 Merritt Island team that won the 2014 Class 3A state title with 33 goals on the season, including one in the championship defeat of Chocktawhatchee.

FLORIDA TODAY Boy Player of the Decade [June 2020]

The careers of the members of the All-Space Coast Girls Soccer Team of the Decade have been impressive. That made for a competitive race for the player of the decade, but fans voted Merritt Island’s Lexy Denaburg as their top girls player. The star volleyball and soccer player led the Mustangs to state championships in both sports.

She scored one of four penalty kicks on the way to a 2108 Class 3A soccer title. The three-time All-Cape Coast Conference player led the coaches’ vote in 2019 as a senior.

FLORIDA TODAY Girls Soccer Player of the Decade [June 2020]

During the last 10 seasons, four boys high school soccer teams brought home state championships to Brevard County. Two more made appearances in state finals, as it was again a strong decade for boys soccer teams in the area.

Meet our team: Ian Carey, Merritt Island: He scored seven goals and contributed 10 assists from his defender spot in 2014. He finished with nine goals and 12 assists in the 2013 regular season.

Michael Seng, Merritt Island: The Mustangs forward scored 28 goals and assisted on 14 in the 2014 regular season. He added five more goals on the way to the 3A championship.

All-Space Coast Boys Soccer Team of the Decade [May 2020]

From the winter of 2011 through 2020, meet our Team of the Decade.

Olivia Bergau, Merritt Island: Two-time first-team All-Space Coast defender. Received All-American recognition from three organizations during her career with the Mustangs.

Lexy Denaburg, Merritt Island: The midfielder was a three-time first-team All-Cape Coast Conference pick and one of Brevard’s most versatile athletes of the decade.

Keli Lindquist, Merritt Island: Mustangs defender was three-time All-Space Coast. Member of 2017 state championship team.

Amanda Wilkin, Merritt Island: The Mustangs midfielder was the 2012 FLORIDA TODAY Girls Soccer Player of the Year, scoring 19 goals and assisting on 21.

They lost two guys and both of those guys scored. You can’t lose track of them with the guys that they got.

The Mustangs scored three times in less than 10 minutes to give them more than enough of a cushion for a 4-1 victory over the Panthers

If we put chances away the game might have been a lot different, but we didn’t. Merritt Island wanted it more than what we did.

Obviously, we made mistakes for goals, which didn’t help, but even at that point, we’ve still got to fight more. We know what their game plan is. We know how good they are executing their game plan. It’s winning tackles. It’s being strong. It’s being quite direct.
