Each year, the Merritt Island High School Soccer Booster Club awards a scholarship to one boy and one girl. The scholarship is open to all academically eligible soccer players and the winning recipients are chosen by the Booster Club.
The scholarship consideration requires active participation in volunteer and/or community activities as well as a Letter of Recommendation from a coach, employer, or teacher. Additionally, the board reviews a personalized essay explaining how soccer has influenced the student-athlete’s life.
This year’s winners were Andrew Rosenberg and Abby Compton.
Andrew was a three-year letterman, Varsity Captain, District Champion, and Regional Finalist. A dual-sport Athlete, Andrew was also on the MIHS track team. Andrew maintained Honor Roll Status all four years, was a member of National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Homecoming Court and was named Prom King.
Andrew plans to attend the university of North Florida and major in Physical Therapy.
Abby was a two-year letterman, Region Champion, State Semi-Finalist, and Regional Finalist. She participated in DaVinci Acadey, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Earth Club, and Beta Club. She also maintained Honor Roll status all four years.
Abby plans to attend Eastern Florida State College then transfer to UCF to major in Biomedical Engineering.
