Opening Game Dedication in Memory of Coach S, Richard Schroeder.  Coach S played a significant role with the Merritt Island Mustang soccer program and will be missed.

After a week one cancellation versus Cocoa, the Mustangs opened the season with a big home win vs Viera.  The first 20 minutes gave some opportunities but the Mustangs entered the water break scoreless.  The Mustangs wouldn’t be denied for long as Payton Gibney tucks a ball backpost and scores the first goal of the 2020-2021 season with 19 minutes remaining in the first half.

A Viera own goal at the top of the fourth quarter doubles the Merritt Island lead to 2-0.  Three minutes later, Senior Captain Jessica Martin sends a big shot from deep to catch the Viera goalkeeper off her line and put the Mustangs on top by three.  Viera would make a couple attempts as the clocked ticked down but were unable to get on the board.

Freshman GK, Julianna Trujillo made her Varsity debut as a Mustang and was solid throughout the 80 minute battle, earning Player of the Match.
