APRIL 2021 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MERRITT ISLAND, Florida – Merritt Island High School Boys & Girls Varsity soccer team tops all Brevard County schools with eight players named to Florida Today’s 2021 All-Space Coast Soccer Team.
Senior Kameron Jorgenson, who recorded seventeen goals and eleven assists led Brevard County was named the 2021 Boys Player of the Year. Joining Jorgenson on the All-Space Coast first team is Grant Paparella and Josh Fox. Liam Blawn and Will Zabin were named Honorable Mention.
On the girls side, Senior Captain Jessica Martin was named the 2021 Girls Player of the Year. Fellow Senior Captain Karys Verpaele was also named All-Space Coast first team while Junior teammate, Kyleigh Trout was named Honorable Mention.
Boys Varsity Head Coach, Scooty Carey said, “To say I’m proud would be an understatement. Kameron and Jessica are both fantastic student-athletes and exemplify what it means to be a Merritt Island Mustang. We’re excited to celebrate this great honor with with them and the other five Mustangs named to the All-Space Coast team.”
The Mustangs boys & girls teams had nine athletes named to the 2021 All Cape Coast Conference team and were also awarded FHSAA’s 4A Academic Team Champions. Both teams finished the 2020-2021 season as Region 3 Runner-Up.
