MERRITT ISLAND, Florida – Eight members of Merritt Island High School’s Girls Varsity Soccer team have been named to Florida Athletic Coaches Association’s 2022 All-Academic Team.
Student-athletes must have a 3.5 (or better) GPA and be a starting varsity player to be eligible.
Leading the senior class were Dani Grenon (C) and Kyleigh Trout (C), both were also recognized for their academic excellence in 2021. Zara Anderson, Payton Gibney, Katie Glass, and Hailey Jones represented the Mustangs’ junior class, with Gibney and Glass also receiving 2021 All-Academic honors. Breezy Kovac and Julianna Trujillo were named from the team’s 2022 sophomore class.
Merritt Island head coach Nathan Trout said, “We’re thrilled to have eight players named to the Academic All-State team. Our student-athletes have worked hard in the classroom and on the field to earn this recognition and we’re extremely proud of them.”
The Mustangs ended their 2022 season with 15 wins, three losses, and two draws, earned the program’s 15th District championship, and advanced into regional play.

Merritt Island High School is an accredited public high school in Brevard County, Florida. The school offers classes for grades 9-12, including Honors courses, Advanced Placement courses, and courses with the Dual Enrollment program at Eastern Florida State College. There are also a variety of academies available for students to enroll in, including the Advance Placement academy, Fame Academy for the performing arts and multi-media entertainment, and Davinci.
