Senior Forward, Kameron Jorgenson has signed to play collegiate soccer with Norwich University, a military college in Northfield, Vermont.
Jorgenson was a standout at Merritt Island High School, earning Florida Today’s All Space Coast Player of the Year as well as receiving a spot on the coveted All Cape Coast Conference Team and earning the most votes by the conference’s opposing coaches.
The team’s leading scorer, Jorgenson tallied 17 goals and 11 assists in the 2020-2021 season and led the Mustangs to an undefeated regular season. The Mustangs made it to the FHSAA Region Final in their state playoff run.
Head Coach Scooty Carey said, “Kam Jorgenson is a “multi-faceted” player.”
“He can play any position on the field other than goalkeeper,” Carey said, “and I only say that because I haven’t seen him in the goal. He probably could be good at that, too.”
The coach complimented Jorgenson’s soccer mind, calling him “extremely insightful,” which helps him know where to be on the field and when. Once there, he has the athleticism to get the job done against smaller players who are perhaps expected to be more mobile.
Jorgenson is 6-foot-2 and about 200 pounds.
“For a kid that size, he’s a tremendous athlete,” Carey said. “Even being that tall and powerful, he’s quick and strong and fast, which makes the difference sometimes in a game.”
The Merritt Island High School boys soccer team was named FHSAA’s Academic Team Champions, carrying the highest overall team GPA, the highest team academic honor in the State of Florida.
